Ranchi, Aug. 8: The Election Commission of India has announced the Dumri assembly by-election date. The by-election will be held on September 5 and the date of counting has been fixed on September 8. The notification will be released on August 10. The nomination will begin on August 17. The date for withdrawal of nominations has been kept till August 21.
The election became due after the seat became vacant following the demise of Dumri MLA Jagarnath Mahato. Along with Jharkhand, voting will also be held on 6 assembly seats in 5 other states on September 5. Other five states where bypolls will be held include Kerala, Tripura, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
