Ranchi, May 13: With the present session coming to an end, the School Education and Literacy department of the Jharkhand Government has begun preparations for the new session of 2022-23 in order to work and make up for the learning loss among students.
As per information, the summer vacation for government schools is May 17. The schools are planned to reopen on June 1 marking the beginning of the new session. With several programmes still running to make up for the learning loss, and some in the pipeline for the new session, the officials at the education department seem hopeful that the learning loss will soon be recovered.
JEPC State Project Director Kiran Kumari Pasi, while talking to a lagatar24.com correspondent about plans to make up for learning loss said, “At present, we have final exams undergoing for the previous session, which will end by May 17 and mark the beginning of the summer vacation. Meanwhile, we were working on providing one-hour remedial classes every day to students; we also have some plans set for the new session.”
Further elaborating on future plans, she said, the duration of the session has been increased, while the syllabus has also been revised. Along with this, remedial classes will continue even in the new session.
While talking about the required criteria for students to pass, she said, “The pass marks are still 35. We are also taking internal exams. Classes 1 and 2 give oral exams, while Classes 3 to 7 have written assessments. Meanwhile, for classes from 8 to 12, JAC conducts board exams that have already been conducted.”
She further added that even though the cut off marks have not been revised, the students were tested based on the syllabus that they have already been taught.
Meanwhile, other plans including making teachers more responsible to make up for the learning loss, making teachers visit students before or after classes as a part of community support, and reading campaigns are still underway to help students cope in the next session.
There are also plans in the pipeline to connect Anganwadi to primary schools like in Punjab to increase learning possibilities for younger students along with making their grass root learning stronger.
