Ranchi, June 15: The Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET) examination in the state may be held in September. The Department of School Education and Literacy has already sent instructions to the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) in this regard.

As per sources, the department has decided to conduct an assessment test first for the Assistant Teachers (Para Teachers). Instructions have been given by the department to JAC to complete the necessary process and conduct the assessment examination in July. The process of teacher eligibility tests will be started only after the results of this examination are released.

Explaining the issue of assessment tests and JTET, JAC Secretary Maheep Singh said, “The JTET and assessment exams are separate and will fulfil different requirements of the education department. Para Teachers, presently working will be sitting for the assessment examination, wherein they will be graded. The teachers that pass the exam will get a 10 percent salary hike.”

“Meanwhile, JTET exams are conducted for appointments of new teachers,” Secretary Singh added. When asked about the role that JAC will be playing in the process for both the examinations, he said that JAC is the entity that will conduct the exams. Apart from this, JAC does not play any role in the process of the examinations.

On the other hand, Rajesh Sharma, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy has said that the department is focusing on completing the assessment test first. Because of this, it may take some time to conduct the Teacher Eligibility Test. He further added that the department is also serious about completing the recruitment process of teachers soon.

Notably, the requisition for the appointment of postgraduate trained teachers and laboratory assistants in plus two schools has been already sent to the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

Requisition for the appointment of secondary and primary teachers will also be sent soon. It is also noteworthy that the teacher eligibility test has not been conducted in the state since the year 2016. Because of this, a large number of teacher training candidates have been waiting for the exam to be conducted by JAC.
