Dumka, Dec. 8: : The special MP-MLA court here acquitted the former chief minister and BJP leader Babulal Marandi and six others in connection with a case dating back to the year 2014 pertaining to the violation of the model code of conduct during the assembly elections.

The FIR (213/14) lodged by the than circle officer (CO) of Jarmundi with the local police station named Marandi and others after finding flags of the respective parties they were associated with, put up on a Yatri-Shed.

Marandi was then the president of the JVM (P) he had formed after parting ways with the saffron party which he later merged with the BJP.

Manoj Kumar Sah, Marandi’s lawyer, said “The court acquitted Babulal Marandi Ji and others who were the co-accused of the case, after finding no evidence against them”.

Those others who have also been acquitted include Dr Sanjay Kumar, Manisha Kar, Niranjan Kumar Mandal, Sanjay Kumar Gupta, Juli Yadav and Shekhar Suman.

Marandi arrived here by Ranchi-Dumka-Godda intercity express train on Thursday morning and claimed that the BJP would secure landslide victory in the assembly elections taking place in Gujarat and elsewhere.

On the AAP having emerged victorious in the Delhi civic body elections by defeating the BJP, Marandi said the BJP lost by marginal difference of votes and that it won’t have any impact on the BJP’ performance in coming elections.

“A section of electorates particularly those residing in slums were inclined towards the promises of freebies offered by the AAP that led the party secure win in Delhi municipal elections by a thin margin” Marandi remarked.
