Jamshedpur, Jan 11: Five CRPF jawans were injured in an IED blast triggered by CPI-Maoist rebels at a jungle under the Tonto thana area of West Singhbhum district about 110 km away from here this afternoon.
The IED blast occurred at Sarjamburu forest while the paramilitary forces were carrying out a search operation for the naxals who were reportedly hiding in that forest stretch.
After the explosion took place, the troopers were also rained shots by the naxals, but the former gave a befitting response by retaliating the fire.
After the IED explosion was triggered, additional number of paramilitary forces had reached at the Sarjamburu forest.
West Singhbhum district superintendent of police, Ashutosh Shekhar confirmed about the IED explosion followed by encounter between the CRPF and the naxals.
“Five jawans were injured in the explosion. They have been air-lifted to a hospital in Ranchi. The operation is still on, ” said Shekhar while talking to lagatar24.com.
The police superintendent who also visited the spot said details about the operation will be given after sometime.
According to police, the CRPF had started carrying out the operation at the Sarjamburu on getting an intelligence input that a big number of naxals belonging to naxal leader Misir Besra was anchored deep inside the jungle.
