Ranchi, Aug. 29: Governor Ramesh Bais today announced an immediate grant of Rs 2 lakh to the family of Ankita Kumari Singh from his discretionary grant.
The development took place after the governor came to know that Ankita died on August 28 after her neighbour Shahrukh Hussain set her on fire on August 23 after her refusal to have affairs with him. The governor also talked to the father of the victim and expressed his deep condolences.
The Governor said that such a heinous and painful incident is shameful for the state. He said such incidents adversely affect the image of the state. He said that the people of the state are not feeling safe at home, shop, mall and road.
He said that in the past also, he had expressed his concern over the law and order situation and had directed the DGP to look into the matter but that direction did not show any positive result. He spoke to the Director General of Police over telephone today and ordered him to probe the role of a local police in the matter. He also directed for hearing of the matter in a fast track court.
