Ranchi, June 14: The office of the Governor of Jharkhand has asked the Chief Secretary of the Jharkhand government Sukhdev Singh to take appropriate action against Deoghar DC Manjunath Bhajantri for allegedly showing disrespect towards the office of the Governor.

The Raj Bhawan sources have said that Governor Ramesh Bais has not taken the incident lightly.

“Instruction has been given to the government to take appropriate action against the concerned official. The office of the Governor can’t directly initiate any action because such executive power is vested in the government. The state government may be asked what action is being taken and when,” highly placed sources in the Raj Bhawan said.

Sources said that the Governor was highly upset with the casual approach of Deoghar DC. The chief secretary could not be contacted for his comment as he was busy with some official meetings.

But sources in the government claimed that no such written order was given by the Governor. “I am aware that the chief secretary has scolded the DC for not picking up phone calls of the Raj Bhawan. The DC clarified that he could not see the phone as he was busy with the CM meeting,” said an official of the government.

Last week, Governor Ramesh Bais visited Deoghar where he performed prayers at the famous Baba Baidyanathdham temple. The Governor’s secretariat including the principal secretary of the Governor, Nitin Madan Kulkarni, and ADC repeatedly called the DC. But he neither attended official calls nor called back. Displeased Governor called the Chief Secretary Sukhdeo Singh who then called the Deoghar DC and snubbed him ignoring phone calls of the office of the Governor.
