Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has granted major relief to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, quashing an FIR (Case No. 418/2014) registered against him at Adityapur police station in Seraikela Kharsawan. Justice Anil Kumar Chaudhary passed the order on the criminal writ petition filed by the CM challenging the case. Advocate Deepankar appeared on behalf of the CM. The court had earlier stayed the trial proceedings in the lower court in this matter.
What the Case Was About
The FIR was registered in 2014 when Hemant Soren had gone to campaign for his party’s candidate during elections. He was accused of violating the Model Code of Conduct, with the case registered under IPC Sections 188 and 506 along with Section 125 of the Representation of the People Act. The trial was being heard in a lower court in West Singhbhum. Soren had filed the petition seeking both a stay on the trial and quashing of the FIR, maintaining that he had not violated the Model Code of Conduct.
