Ranchi, Feb 21: The Jharkhand High Court today sought a detailed report from the state government on the compliance of the court’s instructions regarding reservoirs of the Jharkhand capital.
The development took place in the division bench headed by chief justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra while hearing a PIL taking cleanliness and maintenance of water bodies in the Jharkhand capital. The petition was filed by advocate Khushboo Kataruka pointing out the poor maintenance of Ranchi Lake, a tourist destination of the city.
She pointed out how hyacinths have covered the lake and how the bank of the lake is being used to clean trucks and vehicles. Apart from this, she has also mentioned how the polluted waters from the city are being drained into the water body and its banks are being encroached on.
The court, before fixing the next date of hearing on March 22, asked Ranchi Municipal Corporation to inform the court about the steps taken to increase the manpower for the maintenance of water bodies.
Maintenance of water bodies is a major issue for the Jharkhand capital as banks of water bodies have encroached and the high court apart from taking Katarurka’s petition had also taken cognizance of the encroachment besides Kanke Dam, Hatia Dam and Rukka Dam. The court had earlier also issued many guidelines to ensure the proper security of water bodies and their catchment area.
