Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court heard a suo motu public interest litigation concerning improperly installed cable and internet wires across Ranchi city, directing the Managing Director of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) to file a response by September 10.
Court Seeks Details on Telecom Permissions and Usage
The court has asked the MD to provide details on which telecom companies have been granted permission to install cable and internet wires, and how much of that permission is actually being utilised. The court observed that JBVNL would be held responsible if internet and cable wires across Ranchi are found to be improperly installed or sagging dangerously low. It further sought clarification on which officer is responsible for the low-hanging cable wires in the city and what action, if any, has been taken against them.
Telecom Companies Also Directed to Respond
The court has also directed telecom companies to file their responses in the matter. Advocate Bharat Kumar represented Jio Digital Fibre Private Limited and Bharti Airtel in the proceedings. The division bench of Chief Justice M.S. Sonak and Justice Rajesh Shankar has fixed the next hearing in the case for September 17.
