Jharkhand HC upholds order to convict ex-minister, wife

Ranchi, Jan.20: Former Jharkhand minister Anos Ekka and his better half Menon Ekka, who were convicted and sentenced in cases of having disproportionate assets and laundering money, did not get relief from the Jharkhand High Court (JHC).

A single judge bench of Justice Gautam Choudary upheld the order of the lower court and rejected appeals of Ekka couple as it delivered its judgment today. Earlier, the court had reserved after a hearing on the couple’s appeal in the court on December 21 last year.

On 25 February 2020, the court of Special CBI Judge AK Mishra sentenced a seven-year imprisonment to Ekka couple. On April 23, 2020 the PMLA court sentenced seven-year imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs 2 crore in case of money laundering of Rs 20.31 crore.
