Ranchi, Sept. 6: Jharkhand High Court granted anticipatory bail to Supreme Court lawyer R.K.Anand, main accused in a case of scam involving Rs 28.38 crore having taken place in the organisation of 34th National Games held in the state in 2011.
Justice Anil Kumar Choundary passed the order directing Anand to submit a bail bond of Rs 50 lakh.
Anand had knocked the door of the high court after the ACB court rejected his anticipatory bail plea creating an anticipation of his arrest like other accused in the case. The accused had gone there when the Jharkhand High Court on July 5 did not allow his petition demanding quashing of the FIR by which he was accused in the scam.
Misappropriation was detected after the 34th National Games held in Ranchi following which an FIR was lodged by the ACB on October 6, 2010.
The court turned down the petition filed by Anand for quashing the FIR, cognizance taken by the ACB Court and entire criminal proceedings against him in the 34th National Games scam case, saying that all these things will be considered at the stage of trial.
