Ranchi, Feb.9: Sentenced for 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment in a case registered under Arms Act by a district court, PLFI area commander Jetha Kachhap got relief from the Jharkhand High Court today.
The development took place after a division bench comprising Justice Rangon Mukhopadhyay and Justice Ambuj Nath allowed his bail petition.
Advocate Sujay Dayal argued on behalf of Kachhap against whom many FIRs are registered at different police stations in Ranchi and Khunti.
Kachhap and his associate Mangal Oraon were sentenced to 10 years in jail by the court of additional judge SN Mishra in April 2019.
On July 18, 2014, Kachhap had gathered in Itki along with some associates and was about to execute a criminal incident. On information, the then rural SP Surendra Kumar Jha along with the police team raided Itki at 11.45 pm.
On seeing the police team, the extremists fired. The police also retaliated but due to the night, all the extremists fled taking advantage of the darkness. In the morning, the police team found a large number of weapons, bullets, and naxalite posters from the spot.
Later, Jetha and his associate were caught.
