Ranchi, June 9: After two rape incidents in two districts of Jharkhand, three people were set on fire. Two of the three are rapists, while the third is a rape victim.

The first occurrence of two rapists being set on fire occurred in the Sadar police station region of Gumla district, roughly 15 kilometres from the district headquarters. It happened on Wednesday evening. Sunil and Ashish Oraon were among those who were set on fire. Sunil passed away while Ashish was receiving treatment. They raped a juvenile girl under the guise of providing her with a ride. Villagers set them on fire in order to obtain information from the victims’ parents.

The girl and her parents were waiting for the bus in Bhandara. It was there that the youth arrived. Because the teenagers were known to the family after a brief conversation, parents allowed the girl to accompany them for the sake of convenience. When the parents returned home in the evening and were unable to locate the girl, they began searching. Following their search, they discovered the girl in a serious condition in a nearby community. They had a conversation with the young girl who described how she was raped. Her parents alerted villagers, who went out in search of the youths and set them on fire after beating them black and blue, according to a local resident.

A different incident occurred at Bengabad in the Giridih district, where a rape victim was set on fire.

According to the victim, who is currently receiving treatment in Dhanbad, Sunil Choudhary apprehended her while she was leaving her residence to react to a nature call late at night and then raped her. When she raised the alarm, her husband’s elder brother rushed to her aid, but instead of treating her as a victim, they accused her of having an illicit relationship and lit her on fire before beating her.

Gumla SP Ehtesham Waquarib did not return calls seeking formal confirmation of the incident in his jurisdiction in which two rapists were set on fire. SP Amit Renu of Giridih confirmed the incident in his district, stating that one person has been arrested in this connection. “The victim’s in-law who was involved in the event is yet to be apprehended,” stated SP Renu. When asked about the lady’s condition, he stated that she is recovering.
