Jharkhand ICFAI University holds discussion on career opportunities for legal professionals in PSUs

Ranchi, Sept 27: A Panel Discussion on “Career Opportunities for Legal Professionals in PSUs” was held by the Faculty of Law, at the ICFAI University, Jharkhand on Tuesday. Panelists included Legal Advisors / Legal Managers from reputed PSUs like NHPC, Coal India, Power Grid Corporation, ONGC and Oil India.

Welcoming the panelists and all the participants, Prof ORS Rao, Vice Chancellor of the University, said, “Legal Education provides multiple types of career opportunities to the students, which include starting their own practice, working in private corporations and PSUs, with each opportunity offering its own unique advantages. The objective of the panel discussion is to provide adequate inputs to the students so that they can make informed decision.”

“Careers in PSUs provide a conducive environment to learn and also offer a good work-life balance. Most of the PSUs select candidates on the basis of written tests, CLAT being the most common one, though some PSUs like Coal India and Banks conduct their own test. The panelist also will advise the students on how to prepare themselves to be successful in the competitive examinations,” added Prof Rao.

Addressing the participants, Venkata Sai Aditya Santosh, Law Officer from NHPC shared his own experience of how he prepared for the CLAT (PG) and secured a good rank. He emphasized on the importance of understanding the changing question paper pattern of CLAT over the years and advised the students to develop research skills for attempting the judgment based questions.

Raju Jaiswal, Assistant Manager (Legal) from Coal India advised the students to keep themselves updated with latest developments in the legal field and focus on time management, while attempting the questions in such competitive exams.

Satyendra Tiwari from Power Grid Corporation exhorted the students that firm determination and dedication are critical for success in competitive examinations, while Amir Khan from ONGC and Vivek Singh from Oil India explained the challenging roles and responsibilities of Legal Professionals working with the PSUs and how they help in their career growth.

An interactive session of the students was held with the industry experts, wherein they answered the queries of the participating students. All the students expressed their gratitude to the University for conducting the session, which is useful for choosing their dream careers and preparing for the same.

The Panel Discussion was organised by faculty members of Law under the guidance of HOD Dr Alok Kumar. Faculty of Law and other faculty members, students of the University were present in the panel discussion.
