Dhanbad, Nov 15: The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) today stopped production in the public sector plant, Hindustan Urvarak Rasayan Limited (HURL) Sindri unit just after 9 days of it started production.
JMM activists under district president Ramesh Tudu stopped entry and exit points of the plant by staging indefinite dharna at all the nine gates from Monday morning and announced 10 more days to continue the agitation for 75% job to the locals and minimum wage payment to labours.
HURL senior vice-president Dipten Roy today said that though agitators lifted the indefinite dharna from gate at around 4 pm, owing to agitation the management has to suspend production of ammonia due to risk factor. Suspension of ammonia production has hit the urea production.
HURL Sindri , the ambitious project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had started production merely 9 days back ( November 7). The Sindri unit produces 3850 tons urea and 2250 tons ammonia per day. But agitation has cast shadow on continuation of production.
The production in Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) and Barauni ( Bihar) units that were launched simultaneously with the Sindri unit by Prime Minister on May 25, 2018 are functioning in full swing without any hindrance. But the Sindri unit which has come up in place of Fertilizer Corporation of India (FCI), has become agitation ground of political parties.
“The HURL Sindri unit management has already informed the district administration about agitation for security. Though Section 144 has been imposed, impact is seen nowhere. as agitators are still sitting,” said senior vice-president Dipten Roy.
The HURL official said that senior leaders of the JMM including education minister Jagarnath Mahto ( Dumri MLA) have been provided the numbers of local people given job in the plant, notwithstanding agitation is going on.
JMM district president Ramesh Tudu on Monday evening reached Sindri and announced that agitation for job and work in contract projects of plant would continue for 10 more days.
