Ranchi, Feb.28: The deadline for the beginning of generation from the NTPC’s power plant in Tandwa, Chatra, is likely to be missed as for the last three days work has come to a halt at the plant site.
A locality resident informed this saying 1000 local people got deprived of their job as the work has stopped. Asked the reason behind the same, the local resident suggested contacting AGM (HRD) Anil Kumar Chawla.
Contacted AGM Chawla, who joined the plant office a week ago, admitted the problem saying owners of acquired land demand more compensation and till the payment of the compensation, they are not allowing them to work.
“Owners of 2300 acre land, who had once got compensation, have come together demanding an additional Rs 5 lakh per acre. As we are a government agency we cannot pay without direction from the government. In this situation, they have closed the gate and not allowed any worker to enter. This has affected the work completely,” Chawla said, admitting the problem.
A locality resident said some land mafia are behind the agitation.
“Those who are masterminding the demonstration are those who have become owners of 101-acre land on the basis of fake documents. Unable to get the matter settled with the help of the government, they are women as shields to disturb the work. They are so influential that despite deputation of eight magistrates and imposition of section 144 of CrPC in the plant area they continue to disturb the work,” the resident said.
The plant will have three units each of 660MW. The deadline set for completion of the unit for production is mid-March. Asked Chawla what is the possibility of meeting the deadline, he said: “If the problem is sorted out within a day or two, the deadline can be met.”
