Dhanbad, Oct 10: The onslaught by Jharkhand boys and girls in the MPL 35th National Under-7 Open Chess Championship continued on Monday. The championship is being played in Ahmedabad (Gujarat) from October 6 to 11).

Manager cum coach of Jharkhand team Vikash Tiwary today giving information from Ahmadabad said that all eight players ( four girls and four boys) have displayed impressive shows in the championship so far and are likely to bag position after closing the final round tomorrow.

After the 8th round in the girls’ under-7 championship, Anishka of Jamshedpur (East Singhbhum) earned five points so far while Ranchi’s Vedika has four points. The other two girls from Jharkhand, Zaira of Jamshedpur have three points followed by Laisha (also from Jamshedpur) who has two points.

In the boys’ category, Ranchi’s Rishi Raj and Jamshedpur’s Abhigyan have earned four points each so far. Adrij of Jamshedpur and Avinash of Saraikela Kharsawan have three points each.

“Both boys and girl players’ performance in the championship so far could be called encouraging as they did not get much time for preparation before the championship,” observed International Arbiter Jayant Bhuiya of Jamshedpur.

Gujarat State Chess Association in collaboration with the Gujarat Council of  Science City is hosting this championship under the aegis of the All India Chess Federation. Sports Authority of Gujarat has also supported it.
