Ranchi, Oct.28: Jharkhand police arrested two residents of Amethi (UP) while taking 109.4 kg of marijuana worth Rs 54.70lakh to Nepal from Odisha using routes passing through Jharkhand.
The breakthrough came on NH-143 near Pandripani Tapudega Pradhan Toli in Simdega district, about 200km from Jharkhand capital, after a team led by officer-in-charge of ThethaiTangar intercepted a vehicle during routine exercise and the duo sitting in the vehicles attempted to flee, parking the vehicle, a Tata Safari carrying registration number OD-05F-1777, beside the road.
Those arrested were identified as Santosh Kumar and Mohammed Rizwan Khan. When interrogated they confessed their crime saying they had planned to reach Amethi via Bihar and from there they would have taken the marijuana to Nepal.
Kumar is a resident of Bhilai Khurd under Mohanganj police station of Amethi district while Rizwan is a resident of Pureshivsingh under the same police station of the same district. Marijuana was well packed in 29 plastic wrappers, which the police seized before producing the drug peddlers before the court.
Superintendent of police of the district Shams Tabrez confirmed the development saying drug marijuana comes to Jharkhand from Chhattisgarh and Odisha and during nine months police have arrested as many as 28 drug peddlers and seized 1830.75kg of marijuana and 13 vehicles being used for smuggling from their possession.
