Ranchi: In the wake of rising cybercrime incidents, Jharkhand Police has issued a public alert cautioning citizens against fraudulent calls where scammers pose as officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). These cybercriminals threaten victims, claiming they or their family members are implicated in legal troubles, attempting to extort money under false pretenses.

According to Jharkhand Police, people are being targeted through calls where the fraudsters, impersonating CBI or other government officials, demand sensitive personal information. “If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a ‘CBI officer’ and asking for sensitive details, it’s a scam. Do not fall for it,” the police warned.

How the Scam Works

Cybercriminals usually try to intimidate victims by saying that they are involved in legal matters or criminal cases. They often claim that an arrest warrant has been issued or that a parcel in the victim’s name containing illegal substances has been intercepted. To avoid arrest, they demand money, threatening further legal action if the money is not paid.

Victims are often tricked into believing the scam through fear, leading to financial losses. Jharkhand Police advises the public to avoid sharing any personal information or transferring money in such situations.

Reporting Fraudulent Calls

People who encounter such fraudulent calls are urged to report the incident by calling the cybercrime helpline at 1930 or filing an online complaint through the Cyber Crime Portal. The police have reassured citizens that swift action will be taken against such criminals.

With cybercrime on the rise, the Jharkhand Police remains vigilant and continues to spread awareness to protect the public from such scams.
