Daltonganj, Feb 13: The Mahuadanr range of the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) conducted an educational excursion for students of the tribal residential high school in Mahuadnr. The educational excursion was a part of the state forest, environment and climate change department’s drive for spreading awareness among the students about forests and their animals which will help reduce the human-animal conflict.
Ranger Brinda Pandey said today, “We hired two buses and took the entire contingent to Ormanjhi-based Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park to enable the students and teachers to see what zoo is all about animals and how these are important to human life.”
Kumar Ashish deputy director South division of the PTR said, “We select such government schools which we feel need such exposure to animals.”
“These school children just learn or know from their families only negative things about animals like elephants destroy homes, plunder crops and trample a man to death or sloth bear attacks men and women or wolves are dangerous. We want to show that animals have their own importance for human beings and there is a need to know more about them,” added Ashish.
When asked why Mahuadnr range was chosen for this educational excursion, the PTR deputy director South division said, “In Mahuadnr, there is a wolf sanctuary. Sloth bear walks down in the jungles. Elephants come here from the neighbouring state of Chhatisgarh. Students of this place deserve to be exposed to the zoo and that we did.”
The tiger reserve met with the entire cost of transportation to and fro of the educational excursion, informed Ashish.
Brinda Pandey said they had arranged breakfast and food for the entire school contingent.
