Jamshedpur, Jan 21: Rapid Action Force (RAF) jawans on Saturday carried out a flag March at Kapali TOP area under Chandil thana jurisdiction in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district in the wake of Republic Day.
The flag March was conducted by the assistant commandant Praveen Kumar of RAF’s 106 battalion in which about 100 jawans participated.
Equipped with assault rifles, the jawan in separate columns marched through the narrow streets of the densely-populated Kapali which is a minority-dominated area.
Speaking to the media, the assistant commandant Praveen Kumar said that the exercise is being carried out here at Kapali in view of its sensitivity.
“The Kapali is known to be a hub for running the racket of ‘brown sugar’. Moreover, it is a communally sensitive area. The flag march is being carried out here as the lumpen elements are kept in the bay and confidence is instilled among the local residents in the wake of the Republic Day, ” said Kumar.
Though falls under the Seraikela-Kharsawan district, Kapali is very close to the Mango area of the steel city. Criminal elements emerging from numerous slums in Kapali use to commit crimes like snatching, looting, murder and robbery at the steel city and also in their own locality on regular basis.
Providing shelter to criminals from outside of the region and sale-purchase of brown sugar is also a leading business in the area.
As the Kapali area has become strategically important following the construction of the Dumuhani bridge connecting the Sonari locality of Jamshedpur to NH-33 three years ago, the criminal activity in Kapali and at the localities in the steel city has increased manifold during this period, causing the Jamshedpur police to remain on its toe all the time.
Earlier on Thursday, the RAF had conducted a similar flag march at the Adityapur Muslim Bustee in Adityapur which is known as another hub of the brown sugar business.
