Ranchi, Jan 21: Ranchi Civil Court on Saturday convicted Afroz Ansari for raping a minor girl.

Notably, Ansari had established a physical relationship with a minor girl in his village on the pretext of marriage. An FIR was registered against him at Mandar police station on February 24, 2021.

The conviction order came after 22 months after the prosecution side produced six witnesses supporting the incident before the trial court. During the examination, the trial court found the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.

The court will pronounce its judgment on the quantum of punishment on January 25. The sections under which the convictions took place include 366 and 376(3) of IPC and sections 4 and 8 of POCSO.
