Jharkhand reports 3,553 fresh COVID-19 cases

Ranchi, Jan 6: Jharkhand reported 3,553 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the state health department informed on Wednesday.

Of the new cases, Ranchi reported the highest number of cases at 1,316 followed by East Singhbhum (658) and Dhanbad (223) districts.

With the addition of new cases, the active caseload in the state mounted to 7,681.

As many as 244 people recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. However, the new fatalities pushed the COVID-19 death toll in the state to 5150.

As of January 5, a total of 61,417 samples were collected from across the state, out of which 59,389 were tested negative.

At the same time, the national 7 days growth rate remained at 0.07% whereas for Jharkhand the same remained at 0.42%.

Health officials said that all possible steps are being taken to control the spread of the virus in the state where no Omicron variant has been detected so far.

Amid a spurt in Covid-19 cases in Jharkhand, about 150 police personnel including DG and ADG rank officers have been inflicted with coronavirus.

As per the police department data, 7,896 personnel including 31 IPS officers were detected Covid positive between April 1, 2020, and January 4, 2022, of whom 7754 have recovered. During the period, 44 people have lost their lives.

Witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases, the state government has re-imposed stricter restrictions including the closure of educational institutions and tourist spots till January 15 and capping employee attendance at 50 per cent in offices.
