Jharkhand: Rungta, Khandelwal elected as president, general secy of West Singhbhum Chess Association

Dhanbad, Feb 27: Mukund Rungta and Basant Kumar Khandelwal were unanimously elected as the president and the general secretary respectively of West Singhbhum District Chess Association for the 2023-26 session.

At the annual general meeting of the association held at Sitaram Rungta Re-creation Club Town Hall Chaibasa on Sunday evening, the members highly appreciated the work of the outgoing office bearers for the development and promotion of chess in the district and retained all for the next term unanimously.

Earlier at the meeting, the outgoing general secretary Basant Kumar Khandelwal put up the annual reports.

All four candidates Jahangir Alam, Narendra Nath Pandey, Jaya Chandra Tripathi and Rakesh Kumar Budhia were also elected as vice presidents unanimously.

Sunil Sharma was also elected as the treasurer of the association for the next term.

The posts of four joint secretaries – Subrata Chandra Tripathi, Anant Lal Vishwakarma, Arpit Khirwal and Manish Sharma were elected unanimously.

Basant Khandelwal said that at the AGM, executive members were also elected and they were Jwel Gagrai, Ishan Choubey, Harsh Sharma, Bhupesh Balmuchu, Nitesh Kumar Singh, Devendra Pandey and Suraj Teu.

Four social activists cum sports promoters Nandlal Rungta, Rajkumar Shah, Nitin Prakash and Dipendra Prasad Sahu became patrons of the association.

The new committee at its first meeting decided to hold the 13th Padmabai Rungta Memorial Chess championship next month.
