Dhanbad, Aug 16: The Jharkhand Sikh community has hailed the decision of the Maharashtra government for removing a non- Sikh person as the chairman of Takht Sri Huzur Sahib Gurudwara Nanded, Maharashtra and installation of a Gurushik (Amrit Dhari Sikh) on the post.
In the wake of protests erupting across the country, the Maharashtra government has installed Dr Vijay Satvir Singh (1984 batch IAS) as the new chairman of the Gurudwara Prabandhak committee.
Jharkhand Sikh Welfare Society president Sardar Sewa Singh today shot off a mail hailing the decision of the Maharashtra government for taking cognizance of the sentiments of Sikhs across the country and removing a non-Sikh person as the chairman of Takht Sri Huzur Sahib Gurudwara Nanded, Maharashtra sooner than later.
Jharkhand Sikhs along with their fellow across the country had been on the boil for the last two weeks after the Maharashtra government appointed non-Sikh Abhijit Rajendra (Nanded district collector) as chairman of the Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee.
“We hail the decision of the Maharashtra government and especially give thanks to the deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis who took cognizance of Jharkhand and country’s Sikhs sentiments and installed a Gurushik as chairman of Takht Sri Huzur Sahib Gurudwara Nanded, which is one of the most sacred places,” said Sardar Sewa Singh.
The Jharkhand Sikh Welfare Society president said the Maharashtra deputy chief minister accepted the request of the Sikh community and appointed Dr Vijay Satvir Singh as administrator. “He showed a keen understanding of the Sikh community’s sentiments and swiftly issued the order for removal of the non-Sikh administrator,” he said.
