Jamshedpur, Oct 20: Different localities of Jamshedpur will be under the scanner of the pollution watchdog.
Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB) has decided to keep a check on sound pollution during Diwali . It will conduct a survey on the pollution level during the festival.
Following a circular from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), JSPCB has directed the Adityapur-based regional office to monitor the ambient air quality, level of noise pollution and suspended particulate matter (SPM) on Diwali.
This year Diwali will be celebrated on November 4. The state pollution control board has instructed the regional office to ban crackers, which cause the noise of more than 125 decibels. CPCB has issued similar orders to about 30 cities across the country, JPCB officials said.
Golmuri, Jugsalai, Bistupur, Mango and Telco have been identified for monitoring the pollution level.
The JPCB headquarters has supplied noise meters and other necessary gadgets to monitor the pollution level.
A senior pollution control board official said the survey would be conducted two days before Diwali and also on the day of the festival.
The report of the survey will be compiled by the regional office and will be sent to its headquarters for necessary action.
Sources said after analysing the report, CBCB might frame some rules and regulations to check noise and air pollution.
The regional office has decided to come out with an appeal in the local dailies requesting citizens not to burst high decibel crackers.
Notably, bursting crackers after 10 pm is banned as per the directive of the Supreme Court.
