New Delhi, Oct.20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kushinagar International Airport on Wednesday, which is being seen as a significant step toward expanding the Buddhist pilgrimage circuit around the world. The Prime Minister arrived in Uttar Pradesh today, just in time for the airport’s opening. Kushinagar is the last resting place of Gautama Buddha, where he experienced Mahaparinirvana after his death. It is one of the most famous Buddhist pilgrimage sites.
“My happiness is two-fold today. As curious about the spiritual journey, I’ve a sense of satisfaction. As a representative of Purvanchal area, it is time for the fulfilment of a commitment,” said the PM.
“India is currently focusing on the building of amenities for devotees in order to develop the places associated with Lord Buddha and improve connection. The development of Kushinagar is a top priority for the state of Uttar Pradesh and the central government,” he added.
PM Modi stated that the Kushinagar airport will contribute to the development of the region’s whole economic environment while also creating new job opportunities.
The airport, which is expected to cost over 260 crore, will help both domestic and foreign pilgrims by offering seamless access to Lord Buddha’s Mahaparinirvana sthal. It will provide service to adjacent areas in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
