Jharkhand sub-junior boxing: Five Dhanbad boxers enter finals

Dhanbad, April 30: Five boys and girls of Dhanbad displaying extraordinary performance have booked their place in the final of the sub-junior Jharkhand Boxing Championship being played at JRD Tata Sports Complex from April 29 to May 1.

Jharkhand Boxing Association (JBA) vice-president Paritosh Kumar said that four girls Gaganprit  Kaur (36 kg), Akanksha Bhagat (44kg), Anamika Nayak (50 kg), Deepika Kumari (52 (kg) and one boy Rudra Pratap (70 kg) have entered in final of their event.

Paritosh Kumar said besides them, six players of Dhanbad have also reached the semifinal. They are Saurav Kumar ( 35kg), Pratyush Kumar (37 kg), Amit Kumar (43 kg), Shiv Kumar (46kg), Vikram Kumar (52 kg) and Om Kumar (56 kg) category.

Dhanbad District Boxing Association president Dalbara Singh,  executive president Shashikant Pandey vice-president Mahavir Prasad Mahato, Santosh Kumar Singh, Santosh Kumar Singh, Satpal Singh Baruka, Mahendra Pratap,  general secretary Paritosh Kumar, joint secretary Dinesh Yadav, Brahmdev, Dr Manoj Kumar Thakur, Ravi Kumar, Devendra Kumar Mahto and Ravi Kumar hailed the performance of district players and congratulated coach Mahtab Alam and Alok Kumar for propping up the budding boxers to such height.

The success of Dhanbad players keeps special significance as they practice in the district without a Boxing Ring and play in the ring only in championships.

Association’s general secretary Paritosh Kumar while highly appreciating the performance of his boys and girls said that he would focus on training junior boxers so that they could excel at the national championship.
