Ranchi, Sept.21: People might have seen pedestal fans but very few have got the opportunity to see pedestal rock. For those who don’t get an opportunity, Gumla could be a nice place to visit for the same.
Famous as Gobar Silli Pahar, one can see the pedestal rock from a distance. Recently its picture was tweeted by Jharkhand Tourism (@Visit Jharkhand to attract the attention of tourists. Geologists say that such rock is formed due to wind erosion.
The way rock is located it seems that it violates the law of gravitation. Experts say it stays in this condition because of the centre of gravity.
“Centre of gravity of the pedestal rock is at such a place the rock is balanced. A residual or erosional rock mass balanced upon a relatively slender neck or pedestal. Centre of gravity lies on the line of action of forces that why it looks like this,” an expert acquainted with the rock says.
A locality resident said that the place is good but it is yet to be developed as a tourist spot.
Ironically, none of those associated with the tourism department of the state shared any information regarding this.
Director, tourism, Nitish Kumar Singh expressed his ignorance regarding the tweet saying the Jharkhand State Tourism Development Corporation (JSTDC) will be able to tell regarding this. Asked whether any plan is being chalked out for its development, he said “proposal in this regard has not come from the district.”
JSTDC general manager Alok Prasad also expressed his ignorance regarding the tweet saying ‘someone has tweeted it. I do not have any information regarding this.”
Five attempts to contact JTDC managing director R.Ronita on her official number in between 1.19pm to 1.58pm to talk on the matter did not yield results. “Madam is in a meeting with someone. Call after 10 minutes,” the office staff receiving her official number said each time he received the call.
