Jharkhand U-9 girls’ team wins gold in NTPC National Archery Championship

Dhanbad, May 28: Jharkhand under-9 girls’ team emerged as the champion of the NTPC National Archery Championship being played at Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh from May 23 to May 31.

The Jharkhand team scored 666 points out of 720 in the final and won the team championship gold.

The team comprising Khushi Kumari of Dhanbad, Baha Besra and Rupali Hansda of Chaibasa and Yamuna Yadav of Bokaro district displayed outstanding performance and won the team championship in the Indian Round event under -9 category of the championship for the state.

M Shamshad, the national archery coach who trains Khushi Kumari of Sindri at Tata Steel Jamadoba Archery Feeder Centre, said that the Jharkhand girls won the team championship gold with a record performance.

“Though due to Covid, our players did not get proper time for the national championship, but they surprised their teams of other states by scoring good,” said Shamshad.

Baha Besra becomes overall individual national champ

Baha Besra of Chaibasa was declared the overall individual national champion in the NTPC championship. She scored 704 points out of 720. In the 10-metre distance, Baha scored 352 points out of 360 in the first round.

Harshita Bishnoi of Rajasthan bagged the silver medal with 701 points. She scored 348 points out of 360 in the first round while Lanchani Devi of Manipur got the third spot in the individual championship with 693 points.
