J&K: Forces gun downs five terrorists including top JeM commander Zahid Wani

Pulwama, Jan 30: Five terrorists of the active militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (Let) and Jaish-e-Mohammed(JeM) were killed overnight in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam and Pulwama districts, police said on Sunday.

Top JeM commander Zahid Wani and a Pakistani terrorist were among the militants slain by security forces in the recent 12 hours, according to Kashmir’s inspector general of police Vijay Kumar.

On 14 February 2019, Zahid Wani was involved in the Letpura IED incident, in which more than 40 CRPF cadres were killed. Zahid, a Pakistani terrorist named Wahid Ahmed Rishi, and two local cadres, Kafeel alias Chhota Pakistani JeM and Inayatullah Mir, were all killed.

An battle between militants and security forces broke out in the Naira area of Pulwama on Saturday evening, according to Kashmir Zone Police.

Security personnel conducted a cordon and search operation in the Naira area of Pulwama in south Kashmir after receiving specific information about the presence of militants there.

According to a police officer, four terrorists were killed in the Naira region of Pulwama, in south Kashmir, while one extremist was slain in the Chrar-i-Sharief area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

The site yielded incriminating evidence such as weaponry and ammo, including an AK 56 rifle.
