Srinagar, Nov 18: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday ordered a magisterial probe into the controversial encounter in Hyderpora. He also said that suitable action will be taken as soon as a report is submitted in a time-bound manner.

“A magisterial inquiry by an officer of ADM rank has been ordered in the Hyderpora encounter. The government will take suitable action as soon as a report is submitted in a time-bound manner. The Jammu and Kashmir administration reiterates its commitment of protecting lives of innocent civilians and it will ensure there is no injustice,” Sinha said on Thursday.

Notably, an encounter between security forces and terrorists had broken out in the Hyderpora area of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir on November 15. In the official statement, the Jammu and Kashmir police said that two terrorists identified as Haider, a foreign Pakistani terrorist and his associate Amir Ahmad resident of Banihal, were killed in the encounter.

It said the owner of the building, Altaf Ahmad, as well as tenant Mudasir Ahmad were also called to accompany the search party. However, in the encounter with terrorists, both received critical gunshot injuries and succumbed to their injuries.

Meanwhile, the family members of killed civilians, who were staging a sit-in at the Press Enclave, were forcibly removed by police around midnight and a few of them were detained, officials said on Thursday.

The protesting families were on a sit-in since Wednesday morning and held a candlelight vigil after the daylong protest.

Earlier, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti along with other party leaders also held a protest in Jammu on Wednesday against the alleged killing of civilians in Hyderpora encounter.
