Ranchi, Sept 24: The new recruitment rules framed by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) excluding Hindi and English from the list of regional languages have been challenged in the Jharkhand High Court.  According to Jharkhand High Court advocates Aparajita Bhardwaj and Kumari Sugandha, a writ petition has been filed by Ramesh Hansda and others in the Court with a demand to quash the new rules.

In the petition, it has been said that Urdu has been kept in the category of a tribal language due to political motives. “Hindi is the medium of instruction in most of the government schools of Jharkhand.  Urdu is taught by a special class of people in the Madarsas.  In such a situation, it is not right to give more opportunities to a particular section in government jobs and cut the chances of Hindi speaking candidates according to the spirit of the Constitution.  Therefore, the two provisions of the new rule implemented by the state government should be repealed,” the petitioner has stated.

The Jharkhand government by amending the rules has excluded Hindi and English from the category of regional and tribal languages though languages such as Urdu, Bengali and Oriya have been kept in the category. This decision of the government has been challenged through a writ petition in the Jharkhand High Court.
