Jamshedpur, Sept 21: The ongoing strike by the junior doctors of MGM Medical College Hospital entered into the third day on Thursday amid a fresh row between a section of the striking doctors and lady Home Guards in the hospital premises.
A section of the striking junior doctors had on Wednesday night allegedly abused some lady Home Guards in the central emergency, causing the Home Guards to create a ruckus at the hospital on Thursday morning.
Hurt by the abuse and also being insulted on the caste line, the Home Guards, especially the lady Home Guards created a ruckus and have demanded action against the guilty junior doctors.
The lady Home Guards have also resolved not to do the guarding duty at the hospital’s children’s ward where such misbehaviour by the junior doctors is regular.
Superintendent, MGM Medical College Hospital, Ravindra Kumar confirmed about the ruckus by the Home Guards over the excesses by a section of striking doctors in the night.
“We have got the complaint from the Home Guards to this effect and are looking into it for necessary action, ” said the superintendent while talking to lagatar24.com.
The Home Guard in-charge and the Sakchi Thana OC had also visited the medical college hospital while the Home Guards were protesting the alleged misbehaviour by the junior doctors.
It may be mentioned here that the junior doctors resorted to strike after one of them was assaulted by a group of people for alleged negligence causing the death of a girl child on Monday night.
The striking junior doctors are demanding the arrest of the actual culprits behind the assault and also proper security at the hospital premises.
The strike has become effective causing the patients to suffer immensely as the nursing staff have also joined it. Moreover, the Indian Medical Association has also come out in support of the striking junior doctors and has threatened to spread the strike to all the government-run health hubs across the state by Friday early morning if the main culprits involved in the assault are not arrested by then.
Meanwhile, OC, Sakchi Thana Sanjay Kumar Singh under whose jurisdiction the medical college hospital falls while talking to lagatar24.com said “The attempts to arrest the main culprits involved in the assault are on. We have to make the arrest on the basis of substantial evidence only. ”
