Junior Hockey Team captained by Jharkhand player leaves for South Africa to participate in World Cup

Ranchi, March 25: The Junior Indian Women’s Hockey Team, captained by Jharkhand player Salima Tete, has left for South Africa to participate in the FIH Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup to be held at Potchefstroom, South Africa from April 1 to 12. The team also consists of Sangeeta Kumari and Beauty Dungdung from Jharkhand.

 

Manoj Konbegi, Vice President, Hockey Jharkhand has said that the three players will perform well in South Africa and hope they score as many goals as possible. “The three girls from Jharkhand are our pride and I wish them the very best. They have been in excellent form lately and I hope they carry it with them in the mega event,” he said.

 

Salima Tete and Sangeeta Kumari are employees of Indian Railways whereas Beauty Dungdung is currently looking for a job. The players left Bhubaneswar on Friday. The Indian women’s hockey team is in Group D along with Malaysia, Germany and Wales.

 

India’s first match is against Wales on April 2 followed by Germany on April 3 and Malaysia on April 5.
