Jamshedpur, June 23: With the advent of the rainy season, JUSCO, a Tata Steel subsidiary has initiated steps to prevent dengue in Jamshedpur and its adjoining areas.

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes. The primary vectors that transmit the disease are Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.

JUSCO, which was renamed as Tata Steel UISL, introduced a ‘Dengue Roko Abhiyan’ (Dengue Prevention Campaign).

As a part of the campaign, an intensive IEC cum container collection through an IEC vehicle that is fitted with a public address system for the prevention and awareness of dengue was introduced as a part of integrated vector control management.

“It is an innovative awareness Drive for amongst the community because in which we not only aware the community through jingle and appeal message but also we involve the community to participate and deposit the container in the vehicle that has potential for Aedes breeding and unattained to remove breeding resource permanently,” said an official adding that through the coordinated efforts of the company and from all stakeholders, they would be able to keep dengue at bay.

As dengue, malaria and chikungunya spread mostly in the rainy season, therefore preventive measures are required.

The campaign which began today will continue till September end.

Through this van and some other initiatives, people living in urban settlements of the city would be made aware to identify the breeding places of mosquitoes and prevent their breeding.

“If we keep our houses and the places outside them clean, breeding of mosquitoes can be checked in the rainy season, ” said Sahir Pal, the district surveillance officer.
