New Delhi, June 23: The Shiv Sena group, led by Eknath Shinde, increased its strength to 35, falling two short of the 37-mark required to separate the party without being disqualified under the anti-defection statute.
A resolution passed by the Shiv Sena Legislature Party, signed by 34 MLAs, stating that rebel leader Eknath Shinde continues to be the leader has been sent to state governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari amid the rising political situation in Maharashtra. Shiv Sena had Eknath Shinde ousted as the party’s legislative party leader after the political turmoil. The resolution, however, is a response from the rebels.
In the meantime, chief minister Uddhav Thackrey left his official residence, “Varsha,” on Wednesday night and declared that he was prepared to step down as CM, but that the rebel MLAs had to come and tell him to his face that they did not have confidence in him.
After dissident Shinde claimed the support of 46 MLAs on Wednesday, the political crisis facing the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra grew worse.
