New Delhi, Jan 3: The friend who was with the 20-year-old woman when she was killed when a car struck her scooter at the time of the accident fled the scene out of fear, the investigation into the Kanjhawala case has revealed.
Police said on Tuesday that they had called the woman to record a statement from her.

The victim was observed leaving a hotel after a New Year’s party at around 1.45 am in CCTV footage that the police have located. The victim was first sitting in the rear seat of the scooter as the friend operated it, according to the video.
According to authorities, a later video showed them switching positions just before the vehicle was struck by a car, with the victim occupying the driver’s seat. The victim became entangled beneath the car and was dragged along, according to the police, while the friend managed to flee the scene with only minor injuries.

The family’s sole earner was found naked on a road in Kanjhawala after being dragged beneath a car for a few kilometres, according to authorities.
On Tuesday, the accused is also anticipated to be brought there by the investigation team to recreate the crime scene, according to the police.

On Monday, five individuals who were allegedly in the car were arrested for various offences, including culpable homicide, even as the police were accused of conducting a ‘shoddy investigation’ into the incident.
The results of a post-mortem examination of the body by a medical board, which will determine whether the woman was raped, are still pending.
