Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is set to be prosecuted over his alleged involvement in irregularities related to site allocations by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). The move comes after Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot sanctioned the prosecution following petitions filed by social activists.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) confirmed receiving the Governor’s communication, marking a significant development in the case that has raised political tensions in the state.
Siddaramaiah, a senior Congress leader, has dismissed the charges as “politically motivated.” Last month, the Governor issued a “show-cause notice” to the Chief Minister, demanding a response within seven days to the allegations and questioning why he should not be prosecuted.
In response, the Karnataka state cabinet passed a resolution urging the Governor not to sanction the prosecution. The Siddaramaiah-led government accused the Governor of “gross misuse of the Constitutional Office” and called for the withdrawal of the notice.
