Karnataka, Jan 13: Karnataka Congress on Thursday decided to postpone Mekedatu Padayatra in view of rising COVID-19 cases.
Earlier, Senior State Congress leaders hold a meeting in Ramanagara to discuss the future course of action regarding Mekedatu Padayatra in wake of the cancellation of permission for the padayatra’s final event in Bengaluru and the high court’s observation.
Karnataka CM Basavaraja Bommai also urged LoP Siddaramaiah and State Congress chief DK Shivakumar to call off Mekedatu Padayatra in view of rising COVID cases.
The protest began on January 9 in Ramanagara, as the state experienced an increase in new Covid-19 infections. Shivakumar was chastised by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for refusing to wear a mask and for refusing to be tested for the virus.
At least three FIRs have been filed against the lawmaker, as well as many Congress leaders and others, for allegedly breaking coronavirus-related protocols.
