New Delhi, June 27: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has backed Yashwant Sinha, candidate of the joint opposition, two days before the deadline for presidential election nominations. Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao said he would represent TRS at the nomination while announcing the party’s choice today.
The announcement comes less than two weeks after Mamata Banerjee’s big meeting to discuss a joint strategy for the Presidential election was cancelled because K Chandrashekhar Rao, the chief of the TRS and the Telangana state government, objected strongly to the Congress being invited. Rao and Banerjee had become close friends over their shared desire to defeat the BJP.
“President of @trspartyonline Sri KCR Garu has decided to extend support to the candidature of Sri @YashwantSinha Ji in the election for President of India. Along with our Members of Parliament, I will be representing the TRS at the nomination today,” KT Rama Rao tweeted today.
