Mumbai, Nov.25: On Thursday, Indian Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh stated that the navy is keenly following China-Pakistan defence cooperation.
The Chief of Naval Staff was speaking at a ceremony in Mumbai when the fourth Scorpene-class submarine, INS Vela, was commissioned into the Indian Navy today.
“We are keeping a close eye on China’s and Pakistan’s defence cooperation. Pakistan’s recent purchases from China may shift the dynamics, so we must be cautious,” Admiral Singh stated.
Pakistan and China, long-time friends, have signed a new nuclear accord that will re-ignite the world’s nuclear arms race and conflict.
On September 8, 2021, the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and China Zhongyuan Engineering Cooperation signed the Framework Agreement on Deepening Nuclear Energy Cooperation.
The agreement, which was signed in virtual mode and would be effective for ten years, was finalised at a high-level meeting on August 20, 2021.
The pact calls for the transfer of nuclear technologies, uranium mining and processing, nuclear fuel supply, and the construction of research reactors to enable Pakistan build up its nuclear arsenal.
For China, a stronger nuclear arsenal in Pakistan adds heft to its larger strategy of opposing India’s military power.
