New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding the inclusion of Delhi’s Jat community in the Central OBC list. Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal accused the central government of deceiving the Jat community over the past decade by not fulfilling promises of OBC reservation.
In his letter, Kejriwal stated, “Delhi’s Jat community has been granted OBC status in the state but remains excluded from the Central OBC list. This exclusion deprives thousands of Jat students in Delhi of reservation benefits in admissions and jobs at central institutions like Delhi University.”
“10 Years of Betrayal”
Kejriwal alleged that in 2015, Jat leaders were assured by the central government that their community would be included in the Central OBC list. “In 2019, Home Minister Amit Shah also made a similar promise. If Jat students in Rajasthan receive reservation at DU, why are Delhi’s Jat students denied the same?” Kejriwal questioned.
He further accused the BJP-led government of breaking its promises and claimed that PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were not honoring their commitments to the Jat community.
Impact on Delhi’s Jat Students
Kejriwal highlighted the challenges faced by the Jat community due to their exclusion from the Central OBC list. “Thousands of Jat students in Delhi are denied admission benefits in central institutions like DU. Despite being on Delhi’s OBC list, they do not receive any reservation benefits from central government institutions,” he stated.
The letter reminded PM Modi of his earlier announcements, urging him to fulfill the promises made to the Jat community. “I have written to the Prime Minister to remind him of the assurances given to the Jat community,” Kejriwal said.
