Thiruvananthapuram, August 9: A resolution urging the Central government to formally rename the State from “Kerala” to “Keralam” was unanimously passed by the Kerala Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who presented the resolution in the assembly, stated, “In our Malayalam language it is ‘Keralam’ while in other languages it is called Kerala.”

“This Assembly unanimously requests the Union Government to take immediate steps to amend it as ‘Keralam’ under Article 3 of the Constitution and it be renamed as ‘Keralam’ in all the languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution,” the Chief Minister further said.

The state of Kerala will also commemorate “Keraleeyam 2023” beginning on November 1 to recognize the accomplishments of the state on a global scale.
