At a gathering in New Delhi, outgoing Congress leader Sonia Gandhi will present Kharge with the certificate of election, making him the first non-Gandhi party leader in 24 years. The Bharat Jodo Yatra leader for the Congress, Rahul Gandhi, will be present as well.

90% of Congress delegates voted for Mallikarjun Kharge, who was regarded as the unofficial official candidate. He received 7,897 votes, while Shashi Tharoor received 1,072 votes.

Kharge, a devoted Congressman who supports the Gandhis, has served in a variety of ministries. Kharge, who is calm and collected by nature, hasn’t been into any other significant political difficulties or scandal, though. Being a Dalit politician who rose to become Congress chief is seen as a bold political move ahead of the Karnataka Assembly Elections in May 2023.

Kharge is now in charge of the Congress, and his job is to reimagine the party and boost its political prospects before the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
