New Delhi, Dec 14:  India Test skipper Virat Kohli is likely to miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa. Kohli asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a break in January to spend some time with his family.

Notably, Virat’s daughter Vamika will turn one on January 11, 2022.

Interestingly last week, Rohit Sharma was appointed as the ODI captain and it was confirmed that kohli would just lead the Test side. However the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the three-match Test series against South Africa due to a hamstring issue. Now, Priyank Panchal will replace Rohit Sharma in the squad.

Earlier, the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly also said that he asked Kohli to not step down as the T20I skipper.

“It’s a call that the BCCI and the selectors took together. Actually, the BCCI had requested Virat to not step down as the T20I skipper but obviously, he did not agree. And the selectors then did not feel it right to have two different captains for two whit-ball formats,” said Ganguly.
