Dhanbad, Dec 14: The arrival of Covid positive people from other states has robbed the sleep of Dhanbad’s health department as four new cases have been identified in the district in the last 24 hours.
The health department officials said that all four infected persons had recently returned to their house in Dhanbad from different states. Among these cases, two were found in Bhuli Township and two were in Kusunda in the district.
“In 13 days of December, 14 Covid cases have been identified in the district so far. All of them had come from other states,” said Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Shyam Kishore Kant. He claimed that Covid infection was earlier under control in the district but after the arrival of positive people, the cases are increasing.
The CS also informed that testing of passengers at the railway station, inter-state bus stand, state’s border check posts and public places in the township has been intensified for checking the arrival of infected persons.
He said testing at railway stations has been carried out continuously but this time numbers of testing teams are being increased as the numbers of trains have also increased.
District Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme (IDSP) nodal officer Dr Rajkumar Singh ruled out any sign of the new variant of Corona (Omicron) found among the people who have been tested infected.
“They have mild fever and pain in their bodies. The district health department is gearing up to combat the new variant of Corona,” he said, adding that besides checking and testing, awareness campaigns among people especially for wearing masks and maintaining social distance have also been intensified to alert people from infection.
The official said barring Bhuli and Kusunda cases, the health department team screened 2,224 people at the railway station, Bartand Bus Stand, Chirkunda Check post, NH-2, OPD patients of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital, Central hospital of BCCL, Tata Steel Jamadoba Jharia Colliery in last 24 hours and all of them were found negative.
