Kolkata: Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect in the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has claimed during a polygraph test that the victim was already dead when he arrived at the seminar hall where the crime occurred. Roy’s statements, however, have raised more questions than answers, as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues to probe the case.

According to sources cited by The Times of India, the lie-detector test administered to Sanjay Roy flagged several of his answers as false or unconvincing. Throughout the test, Roy reportedly appeared anxious and unnerved, and when confronted with multiple pieces of evidence by the CBI, he offered various alibis to defend himself.

Roy claimed that upon discovering the victim’s body, he panicked and fled the scene in fear. This account starkly contrasts with his earlier confession to Kolkata police, where he admitted to both the rape and murder. Recently, Roy retracted his confession, alleging that he was being framed and asserting his innocence.

During his time in custody, Roy also told jail guards that he had no involvement in the crime and reiterated his innocence before the additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) court in Sealdah, consenting to the polygraph test to clear his name.

However, investigators have noted significant inconsistencies in Roy’s claims. One officer from the CBI stated that Roy had been attempting to mislead the investigation and could not provide satisfactory explanations for the injuries on his face or his presence at the crime scene during the time of the incident.

The case revolves around the horrific discovery of the young doctor’s body inside a seminar hall at the hospital. The autopsy revealed evidence of sexual assault and 25 injuries to her body, including in private areas. The doctor had reportedly gone to the room to rest during her night shift.

CCTV footage from the hospital captured Roy entering the premises at 4:03 AM on August 9, and investigators later found his Bluetooth headset at the crime scene. A psychoanalytic profile of Roy described him as a “pervert severely addicted to pornography” with disturbing, animal-like instincts, further complicating his defense.

As the investigation progresses, the CBI remains focused on uncovering the truth behind this shocking crime, with Roy’s inconsistent statements and troubling behavioral profile under close scrutiny.
