Korea Open: PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth enter second round

Suncheon, April 6: Indian shuttler PV Sindhu, advanced to the second round of the Korea Open Badminton Championships 2022 after defeating Lauren Lam of the United States here at the Palma Stadium on Wednesday.

In a 34-minute match, the two-time Olympic medalist Indian overcame Lauren Lam 21-15, 21-14.

In Game 2, the American gave Sindhu no easy points, as the Indian world No. 7 was only a point ahead at halftime. With the game on a knife’s edge at 15-14, PV Sindhu altered gears and scored six points in a row to put the game out of reach.

The Indian will now face Aya Ohori of Japan in the second round of the BWF Super 500 event.

Meanwhile, in a 40-minute encounter, former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth defeated Malaysian shuttler Daren Liew 22-20, 21-11. Srikanth managed to rally from a 15-18 deficit to win the first game 22-20.

The fifth seed then easily dispatched Daren Liew in the second round. In the second round, the Indian shuttler will face Israel’s Misha Zilberman.

M.R. Arjun/Dhruv Kapila of India were given a walkover in the first round of the men’s doubles event after South Koreans Ba Da Kim/Hee Young Park withdrew.

In round 2, the Indian duo could face Indonesian second seeds Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan, who are past world champions.
